Class Rules and Procedures

Mrs. Hamilton’s Classes

Parents, please read and sign this form.  It contains information that is important for your childs English class.  If I have your child in more than one class, you only need to sign the form once.

Classroom Procedures/Guidelines:

1.   By the time the tardy bell rings:

a.   Be in your assigned seat

b.   Work on the bell ringer activity. (Computer out and ready to go!)

Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a tardy.

2.   NO CELL PHONE POLICY:  Turn in your cell phone in the box, place your backpack under your chair, and place your laptop in plain sight on your desk.

3.   Make quick, smooth, quiet transitions.

4.   Do not distract others. (anything you do to draw attention to yourself)

6.   Be respectful at all times. (Treat others the way you want to be treated)

7.   Produce a good work product and do not stop until all your work is completed.

8.   Handbook violation:  Immediate Office referral: dress code, cell phone, fighting, profanity, disrespect are a few examples of this type of violation.

♦    I will expect you to serve a 10 Minute Detention either before (by 7:45 AM) or after school (by 3:50 PM) in my room for choosing to violate any of these Owl Essentials. You will have TWO days from the time of the violation to take care of this. Please bring the orange paper with you when you come to serve your detention.

  • If you do not serve your detention, you will receive a second detention.  Failure to serve both detentions will result in an office referral.

♦    Violation of student handbook will result in an Office Referral

*Quick Note:  The bell does not release you from class, I do.  You may not put away your things until the bell rings, or you have finished the assignment.  You are not to congregate at the door before the bell rings.

**If you do not turn in your cell phone, and I catch you using it or a second phone during class, you will be sent to the office.  You may not charge your phone during class.

Classwork Policy:

All classwork will be posted through Google Classroom, and deadlines will be set for each one. The majority of assignments will be due at the end of each class period.

If a student does not complete his/her classwork by the deadline, it is a zero.  The student then has the opportunity to turn in the assignment for a 70.  If the assignment has not been completed by the third day, it will be a 50.  At the end of each three weeks, those assignments can no longer be turned in.  Any missing assignments will be a zero at that time.

GRADES:

Grades will be assessed in the following manner:

                                    Daily:  50%

                                    Tests/Quizzes:   30%

                                    Class Participation:  20%

Semester Exams:  Students may earn exemption from these tests.  It is based on the students grades and attendance.  The policy is in the student handbook.

Daily Work/Test Retakes:

If a student fails any assignment, they will have an opportunity to request a redo, but the highest grade they can make will be a 70.   The student has two days to request this redo through the school email account from the time they receive notification of that failing grade.  If that request is not made within the two-day period, the first grade will stand. The redo will be assigned on Google Classroom.

Make-up Work:

If a student is absent, they have one day for each day they are absent to make-up any work they have missed.  Because all assignments are on Google Classroom, the student will have the ability to do the assignments from home.

RESTROOM:

Restroom breaks are NOT allowed during the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of class.

You have time between classes to use the restroom.

If you absolutely need to use the restroom during class, you may be allowed to go during class.  You must take the hall pass with you and your time will be noted as to when you leave the room and return.  Excessive time in the restroom will be noted and could result in loss of bathroom privileges.

*Sickness is an exception; please report to the office if you are ill.

Laptops:

  1. It is your responsibility to have your school issued laptop with you and charged every day.  I will not have any chargers, so you must bring yours with you every day.
  2. Have your laptop on your desk ready to go by the tardy bell.
  3. You do not have permission to use your laptop unless it is for a class assignment.
  4. You are NEVER allowed to play games when you have not completed your assignment.
  5. Use your laptop appropriately.  No inappropriate images set on the desktop or displayed in any way.
  6. Active Classroom monitoring:  I will be monitoring your laptop use when you are in my classroom.  You must be logged on to the school’s network using your official school email address.  You may NOT use a personal hot spot to connect your laptop.   If I cannot see your computer, you will receive an Owl Essential.

NO TOLERANCE CHEATING POLICY:

Cheating

Cheating is committing fraud and/or deception on a record, report, paper, computer assignment, examination, or any other course requirement. Examples of cheating include but are not limited to the following:

  • Obtaining work or information from someone else and submitting it under one’s own name.
  • Using, or attempting to use, unauthorized notes, or study aids, or information from another student or student’s paper on an examination.
  • Communicating answers with another person during an exam.
  • Altering graded work after it has been returned, and then submitting the work for regrading.
  • Allowing another person to do one’s work and submitting it under one’s own name.
  • Using electronic devices (e.g., phones, watches, calculators) that provide answers or other unauthorized information for exams.
  • Taking an exam for another person or having someone take an exam for you.

If a student is proven to have committed any of these offenses, the penalty will be a zero for that assignment with no opportunity to make it up.  The principal will be notified, and I will contact parents if this occurs.
