Special Ed Teacher
I graduated high school from Dimmitt, TX in 1988. Then I went to South Plains for two years and graduated with an associates degree in Fashion Merchandising. After South Plains, I transferred to West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX. I decided to go into education to be a teacher when I worked with Special Olympics, that is when I knew what kind of teacher I wanted to become. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1995. Finally in 2015, I received my Master’s degree in Education with Exceptionality/Special Education.

I started teaching at Akin Elementary in 2015.
I have been with the district now going on my fourth year.
Currently I am teaching all subjects.
I have been around children all my life. My mother taught kinder and had a daycare in Dimmitt. I would work there with children two and up. I have always wanted to work with children and when my son was two I taught a two year old class in my mother’s school. In 2004 I became an assistant at Plainview ISD in the Preschool Program of Children with Disabilities call PPCD . The next year the teacher left and I was placed in the teaching position for one year. Then I taught a self-contained autism class for 7 years. My last year that I taught at La Mesa Elementary, the district went to full inclusion, so the students I had went into the general population. My last year to teach was in 2013, In 2014 I went to work at the special education office and was able to work with all my former students in the district with autism. Then in August of 2015 I came to work for Hale Center ISD. Akin is home to me now and I can not imagine anywhere else that I would want to work.
I am married to my husband, David Sells. He works for the City of Plainview as a Fire Captain at station 3. He runs his own business on the days he has off from the fire station in Roofing and Remodeling. We were married in 1999 and have three children, Brantlee, Quinten, and a daughter Destiny. Quinten graduated in 2016 from Hale Center High School and Destiny is in the 7th grade here. Our oldest son is married and we have a 14 month old grandson. We have two dogs at our house named Jet and Spike.
I love to travel! I have been to several countries in my lifetime besides the United States. My favorite place that I have visited is Switzerland. I have been to Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. Growing up we had three foreign exchange students that we hosted in our home. We had a girl from Canada, a boy from New Zealand and a boy from Japan. What an experience! When I am not teaching during the summers I go to workshops and conferences to gain more information and learn. We are blessed to be able to take vacations and I enjoy spending time with my grandson.
